IDC Oschersleben 2024

2024-08-25 IDC Oschersleben – 1st races of 2024

Friday 23 August our race weekend started at the Oschersleben circuit. Just like so often in August at this circuit, the temperature was tropical again. Unfortunately Jan Houbraken (The Chaser#35) and Luc van Gerven (The Bomb#36) were absent this weekend due to personal circumstances. Mark van Bunnik (Fastmarky#77) and Greg Barnes (Gin-Tonic#67) were able to take to the track for the first time at the end of the day for a 20-minute free practice on their Yamaha R6. Both riders were again classified in the Supersport class this weekend and both rode with a day license. This meant that neither of them received points for the championship after the races and were not mentioned in the final results. On Saturday there were 2 qualifications on the program and on Sunday 2 races.

Qualifications

During the qualifications (with temperatures between 30-35 degrees), our riders could be found in the midfield of the fast Supersport class. Mark van Bunnik P16, Greg Barnes P15.

Race 1

Fortunately, it was a bit cooler on Sunday. It had also rained during the night, so the track conditions were completely different. Greg Barnes and Mark van Bunnik had a reasonable start. Greg Barnes was slightly ahead of Mark, but at the big chicane at the back of the circuit, he had to go straight on when turning in because a rider blocked him on the inside of the corner. Greg kept the bike upright through the gravel trap, but had to put it down in front of the tire stack. Rider OK. Mark could not get into his pace for the rest of the race because of a rear tire that was too soft for the cooler conditions. He eventually finished 13th after the race was prematurely stopped by a Red Flag.

Race 2

Fortunately, with the help of some parts from another rider, we were able to replace a clip-on tube on Greg Barnes’ bike, so he could start the 2nd race. This time Greg Barnes had one of his great starts again, but in the 2nd corner (Hasseröder) he braked so late that he had to go straight into the gravel trap and unfortunately took another rider with him (sorry again). Fortunately, both riders were able to leave the gravel trap and continue their race, but as the very last. Greg then focused on overtaking as many other riders as possible (sometimes he had too much focus and didn’t make any friends here and there) and eventually finished 14th. Mark van Bunnik had a mediocre start and his race only lasted a few laps because he had to stop his bike prematurely due to a disconnected fuel hose.
